The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment on flat or rolling terrain, refuse dumps, and/or construction sites with simple terrain problems. The equipment operated at this level typically includes tractors with bulldozer or angledozer blades, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, trench diggers, skid steers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
What You'll Do
- →Operates gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozers or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, wheel loader, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
- →Some of these vehicles may be equipped with auxiliary attachments (snowplow blades, rotary snow blower, mower and sweeper or sanding units).
- →Operates equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects as breaking new ground for trails, roads, canals, tunnels, or construction sites.
- →Work is completed to exact specifications on flat or rolling terrain, requiring more "touch" than at lower grade levels.
- →At this level, earth is moved on mountainous and steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forests, and other surfaces with similar rough terrain/features Career Seasonal This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures.
- →A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis.
- →As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.
- →Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
- →The typical season for Grand Teton National Park is January through November and late November through December (anticipated non-pay period 11/3-11/16, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- ✓Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Drug Testing: You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.
- ✓In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- ✓Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓Probationary Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
- ✓This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
