The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment, to various emergency situations, such as structure fires, aircraft crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous materials spills, auto accidents, trench collapses, and confined space entrapment.
What You'll Do
- →Provide emergency 911-call taking and communication services while serving as primary call taker for certified Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Enhanced 911 system.
- →Determine the nature of the emergency by caller interrogation and prioritizes all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
- →Verify the location and call back number for a medical patient and determine the severity of the emergency situation using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) checklists, in accordance with national standards.
- →Operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center for the base fire alarm system and the Enhanced 911 system.
- →Operate computer based Hazardous Materials databases to provide field units with accurate information during emergencies.
