About the Role

The VA Fargo HCS is recruiting for (1) full-time Emergency Department Physician in Fargo, ND.

What You'll Do

  • The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers.
  • This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest.
  • As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran.
  • This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community.
  • This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.
  • Duties include: ED physicians provide backup to Inpatient Unit during emergencies or during unexpected absence of the hospital covering provider.
  • The ED physician may need to respond to codes or other emergencies within the facility, although the primary responsibility for this rests with the Hospitalist team.
  • Shifts times and staffing patterns are subject to change to ensure efficient use of medical center resources and appropriate levels of care are maintained.
  • Occasionally, if another ED physician is unexpectedly absent, other ED physicians will be contacted to provide backup coverage.
  • Evaluation, stabilization and movement to definitive care of acute medical, surgical, and trauma conditions that present to the ED.
  • Assessment and initiation of treatment of ongoing or chronic conditions that present to the ED while facilitating delivery of the patient to the appropriate level of follow up care.
  • Completion of patient care encounters using CPRS, the current VA electronic medical record (or any subsequently adopted EHR system).
  • Hospital policies regarding documentation are described separately.
  • All outgoing EM providers will provide a verbal, bedside sign-out, to the incoming EM provider.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
