About the Role

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Elevator and Subway Branch. The Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) will install, maintain, evaluate and adjust, repair and calibrate electronic control equipment and systems in support of elevators and other electronically controlled systems.

What You'll Do

  • The ideal candidate must have expert knowledge of logic circuits, electronic amplification and complex electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • TOUR OF DUTY: Monday - Friday from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM MAJOR DUTIES: Interprets, diagnoses and responds to the full spectrum of elevator operational problems, e.g., power buildup problems in multi-voltage generator systems, changes in platform leveling, high maximum elevator speeds or sudden stops or changes in elevator speed.
  • Applies trade knowledge of control circuits such as parallel, reverse, self-holding, dynamic and suicide switch.
  • Utilizes test procedures, including vendor proprietary tools, signal generator, recording meter, event recorder or thermograph instruments to test live circuits and components to diagnose malfunctions and decide on the remedy.
  • Interprets electronic diagrams and specifications of complete elevator bank systems.
  • Evaluates, adjusts and repairs new systems and invents processes to handle unexpected defects.
  • Determines the need to modify test devices.
  • Develops alterations to detailed schematics and maintenance procedures.
  • Organizes efforts with professional and technical workers on changes to equipment and its functioning qualifications.
  • Adjusts complex, integrated operational systems, including voice, fire controls and security.
  • Troubleshoots errors in electronic systems and troubleshoots electronic systems for errors for which there is little documentation.
  • Communicates with engineers and manufacturer's representatives to examine, adjust and develop changes, replacements or improvements to equipment to eliminate malfunctions and/or simplify repairs or operational modifications.
  • Uses various automated test equipment to recognize deficiencies in the programming or unit to correct issues.
  • Corrects and/or repairs integrated digital control systems (Motion Control Engineering and Otis).
