About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS-0856-11/12, Electronics Technician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, WATERWAYS OPERATIONS PRODUCT LINE -WOPL in NORFOLK, Virginia.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as an Electronics Technician and be responsible for assigned projects and staff to evaluate, design, and implement improvements to CG electronic marine ATON systems.
  • This involves project planning, budgeting, and coordinating with the WOPL Manager, Deputy Product Line Manager, HQ project managers, Engineering Logistics Command, and other CG units..
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: Technical specialist related to the design, development, evaluation, and implementation of navigational aids and communications systems for new and existing facilities.
  • Develops equipment specifications and design and implementation manuals to guide the procurement and implementation systems.
  • Incumbent provides technical coordination and direction to field CG units in the design and evaluation of prototype installations.
  • Evaluates electronics engineering proposals and acts as Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) to ensure proposed technical tasks are properly formulated and will satisfy technical requirements.
  • Conducts studies on system costs and benefits to determine research investigation and explores the impact of scientific and engineering developments on Aids-to-Navigation (ATON) and Marine Environmental Response (MER) programs and plans.
  • Provides expert electronics advice for the engineering program on technical performance characteristics, operational concepts, and system integration.
