About the Role

This position serves as an Electronic Technician responsible for the maintenance of electronic equipment and systems at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). The incumbent will be assigned to the Electronic Technologies Section of the Clinical Engineering in Engineering Service and provide periodic service as needed at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Austin, Cedar Park, College Station, Palestine and Brownwood.

What You'll Do

  • Test Methods and Techniques: Incumbent will determine whether or not equipment is performing satisfactorily.
  • To make this determination, he/she must design test systems which includes utilizing and modifying existing test equipment for troubleshooting, repairing a wide variety of systems/networks and their components.
  • Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance: incumbent maintains complex electronic systems and ADP equipment which are vital to the hospital's ability to provide health care.
  • The incumbent is capable of planning and performing scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) service on electronic equipment, systems, networks and ADP equipment to ensure that the instrument is working properly, calibrated properly, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Purchasing Recommendations: Incumbent is recognized as an individual with superior knowledge of complex systems.
  • Serves as a technical advisor and consultant to a wide variety of professional personnel, and others in the purchase of new instruments and systems, design of new systems, or modification of existing systems to meet current and projected hospital needs.
  • Design: Incumbent will plan and perform design, development modification projects on complex electronic systems or comparable individual devices and assemblies.
  • Adopts new and conventional components and circuits in this work, and exercises considerable originality in adapting equipment to perform new or different functions to meet staff needs.
  • Written Assignments: Incumbent will use advanced writing skills to communicate matters of significant importance.
  • He will relate the results of testing and will recommend courses of action to be followed which are consequences of his/her test results.
  • Will recommend design, redesign, modification, reutilization, or procedural changes to obtain desired results.
  • Teaching Assignments: Incumbent will be called upon to teach maintenance of complex electronic systems and equipment.
  • Will instruct equipment operators in the correct system usage and in operator preventive maintenance.
  • Level of Responsibility: Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and calibration for complex electronic systems and ADP equipment and devices which must function properly if the quality of health care is to be maintained.
