About the Role

This position is located within Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the Lexington VA Health Care System- a two-division medical center. Incumbent is assigned to one division but may be periodically assigned to the other campus to gain experience or for coverage purposes.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent serves as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic responsible for the installation, modification, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of complex electronic control systems and building automation systems (BAS)/Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) that support critical healthcare operations.
  • The work involves systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, and digital controls to maintain environmental conditions required for patient care, research, and life safety systems.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs complex electronic control systems supporting HVAC and facility infrastructure.
  • Monitors system performance using EMCS workstations, analyzing trends, alarms and system data.
  • Programs and modifies control sequences to maintain environmental conditions and optimize system performance.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in BAS/EMCS systems, including controllers, sensors, actuators and network communications Performs preventative maintenance including calibration, adjustment and system verification.
  • Interprets complex electrical schematics, logic diagrams, network communication diagrams and engineering drawings integrating multiple disciplines as part of preventative maintenance of systems.
  • Participates in commissioning and retro-commissioning of new and existing systems in accordance with VA design standards and healthcare engineer guidelines.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and traces system logic to resolve complex issues.
  • Provides technical guidance to HVAC mechanics and other trades.
  • Coordinates with Engineering, clinical staff and Information Technology staff to ensure system integration and operational continuity.
  • Ensures compliance with VA cybersecurity.
  • Ensures compliance with data protection requirements with accessing BAS networks.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic/PD305690 Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical effort, including frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and reaching, occasional climbing and working in elevated or confined spaces, and lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
