About the Role
The Electrician performs journeyman-level installation, modification, preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of facility electrical systems up to 480 volts at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. Work includes branch circuits, panels, switchgear, transformers, motor-control circuits, emergency-power and generator systems, lighting, and related components.
What You'll Do
- →The Electrician independently installs, modifies, maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, tests, and repairs electrical systems and equipment through 480 volts, ensuring code-compliant, safe, and reliable operation throughout the medical center.
- →Work includes preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, repairs, electrical upgrades, and documentation of all completed tasks.
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs preventive maintenance and inspection of electrical systems up to 480 volts, including branch circuits, panels, switchgear, transformers, motor-controls, emergency-power equipment, generator systems, lighting, and related components.
- →Conducts scheduled inspections, electrical testing, documents results, corrects deficiencies, and ensures compliance with NEC, VA requirements, manufacturer specifications, and OSHA safety procedures.
- →Installs and modifies circuits, receptacles, lighting systems, panels, switchgear, transformers, and power/control circuits following proper voltage, amperage, conduit, wire-size, and protection requirements.
- →Performs maintenance and repair of circuits, panels, switchgear, motor-controls, emergency-power systems, and generator electrical components; resolves overloads, breaker failures, wiring issues, grounding, and load-balance deficiencies.
- →Troubleshoots and tests electrical systems using wiring diagrams, manuals, and instruments such as multimeters, clamp ammeters, megohmmeters, and circuit analyzers; diagnoses complex or intermittent failures.
- →Completes documentation and closes work requests in accordance with established procedures.
- →Performs other related duties as assigned.
