About the Role

The employee serves as the Electrician throughout the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). The primary purpose is to install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems, controls, circuits, and equipment throughout the medical center in support of patient care and facility operations.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include but are not limited to: Install, modify, maintain, and repair electrical systems including power and lighting circuits, alarm and control systems, panel boards, motors, transformers, switches, distribution panels, and related devices to ensure continuous and safe operations for the health care facility.
  • Plan and lay out work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Calculate conduit, wire, and load requirements.
  • Diagnose problems and troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment.
  • Identify and correct electrical deficiencies and hazards using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, and adjusting electrical systems and components.
  • Adhere strictly to safety policies and codes, working in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), VA regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate with contractors and other trades as needed to ensure timely completion of electrical tasks associated with construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
