About the Role
The primary purpose of the position is to perform electrician duties for healthcare facilities within VASNHCS. The incumbent will be required to assist other trades persons and/or any other work as assigned by the supervisor to meet the mission of Facility Management Service (FMS).
What You'll Do
- →Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, trouble shoots, test and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and all equipment as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- →Read system diagrams and schematics, interpret basic electronic terms and symbols, and apply a variety of electrical formulas, tables, charts, and color codes in order to mount, ground, and install wiring and equipment for electrical/electronic systems.
- →Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, electrical maintenance, and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
- →Conduct research and write work orders for approval by supervisor and assist in maintain stock levels for timely repairs.
- →Is required to keep all stock and shop areas neat, clean, and orderly.
- →Closes all work orders and preventive maintenance schedules.
- →Perform other related duties as assigned.

- →Physical Requirements: The incumbent often works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms.
- →He/she often works in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty, and hard to-reach locations.
- →The work involves prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions.
- →The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
- →Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry over 40 pounds.
- →Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
