About the Role

This position is in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Electrical Branch. The position serves as a journeyman electrician with thorough knowledge of installation, operation, and troubleshooting of sophisticated electrical and electronic circuits/equipment and standard electronic components and controls.

What You'll Do

  • This is a Day position from 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
  • (Hours may change due to operational needs of management).
  • This is an Essential-Employee Position.
  • The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations.
  • Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends.
  • Works with a wide variety of standard commercial and/or industrial electrical devices, equipment, and systems, including electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment in the Senate Office Buildings.
  • Electrical Installation and Troubleshooting: Installs, assembles, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and maintains routine and standard electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical devices containing electronic components in order to isolate the cause of the malfunction of electrical control systems, analog/digital controls, and solid state motor control circuits in equipment.
  • Independently works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Completes installation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures and controls in industrial complexes and/or in buildings with complex electrical loads, such as computer complexes.
  • Electrical Layout or Design Work: Installs electrical devices (conduit, outlets, circuits, etc.) in rooms for which there may not be complete blueprints or schematics available as a result of the age of the facility.
  • The Electrician must improvise to install the updated circuits and equipment in antiquated facilities without adversely affecting the exiting design or architecture.
  • Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
