The primary purpose of this position is an Electrical Engineer serving in a developmental capacity, performs assignments designed to orient the employee in the application of academic theories and basic principle assignments. Position will be developmental GS-09 target grade of GS-12. All training must be completed and regulatory requirements met prior to promotion.

What You'll Do

  • This position will be developmental GS-0850-09, GS-0850-11, and target grade of GS-0850-12.
  • GS-07: Uses prescribed methods to perform specific, and limited work assignments that are normally minor phases of a broader assignment of a higher-grade engineer.
  • Uses computers and computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to assist higher grade engineers in solving engineering problems and facilitate the work.
  • Assists in coordinating projects with engineers in other disciplines or with architects.
  • Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

  • GS-09: Participates in design work for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities, including utility systems, utilizing a professional knowledge of electrical engineering.
  • Provides electrical engineering support to trades and crafts shops.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies to ensure programmed development will not prematurely become obsolete.
  • Coordinates projects with other engineers in other disciplines or with architects.

  • In conjunction with the primary duty of maintenance engineering, on a less frequent basis performs work in the construction management, design, and/or programming/base development functions.

  • GS-11: Monitors and manages projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities and maintains surveillance over construction contractors utilizing a professional knowledge of electrical engineering and knowledge of other engineering disciplines to ensure overall compliance with contracted specifications, schedules, etc.

  • Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions. 4.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. 5.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions; and to plan, conduct, and record site/facility surveys and inspections. 6.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintain good working relations.
  • Professional knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines. 2.
  • Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities; and knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budget systems and management. 4.
  • Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings. 5.
  • Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspection; to document, analyze, interpret, and apply results, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions. 6.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.
