About the Role

This position is part of the Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, Department of Energy. As an Economist, you will serve as an expert and senior advisor on domestic and global natural gas issues across the full value chain but particularly on natural gas trade, including analysis and review of applications submitted under the Natural Gas Act, and ensuring importers and exporters are complying with the conditions of their respective authorizations.

  • Veterans shape the future of energy As an Economist, you will: Provide leadership and direction for major divisions within important economic programs related to the government and societal economic well-being.
  • Be responsible for economic research, often contributing new insights into economic dynamics and relationships, usually to solve urgent government problems.
  • Provide economic advice and counsel on critical government decisions, influencing regulatory policy planning and execution, as well as the drafting of regulatory decisions related to natural gas and natural gas trade.
  • Manage the collection, analysis, interpretation, and publication of extensive oil and gas information generated by the government.
  • Administer regulatory decisions that bear on the economic health of society.
  • Professional authority and technical responsibility to assignments, with a significant impact on national or international economic forces.

Requirements

  • BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
  • OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • This vacancy has a positive education requirement.
  • In order to be rated as qualified, you must provide copies of your college transcripts.
  • Failure to provide copies of your college transcripts may result in a rating of "Ineligible".
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S.
  • Department of Education.
  • Foreign education must be reviewed by an organization recognized by the U.S.
  • Department of Education.

  • If substituting education for specialized experience you must submit proof of your qualifying education.
