About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Perform digital and computerized radiography, including quality control of images to ensure proper exposure, positioning, and annotation.
  • Apply CR post-processing techniques such as window/level adjustments, edge enhancement, brightness correction, and annotation updates prior to routing images Practice radiation safety by using protective equipment (lead aprons, gloves, shields, and collimation) and wearing a film badge in compliance with radiation safety policies.
  • Follow all medical center safety procedures and participate in directed quality assurance activities.- Meet radiologist and supervisor standards for quality and quantity of radiographic exams while minimizing patient dosage and controlling costs.
  • Properly identify patient images by verifying patient I.D. bands and confirming two verbal identifiers (name and social security number).
  • Perform bedside and operating room radiographic exams, including diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures for patients unable to be imaged in the department.
  • Assist radiologists, under supervision, with basic fluoroscopic examinations such as Barium Swallow, Upper GI, UGISBF, Air Contrast Barium Enema, and single-contrast enema procedures.
  • Prepare contrast materials under radiologist direction for injectable, oral, and rectal exams, ensuring patient consent is obtained for injected media.
  • Use required supplies such as needles, syringes, renografin, barium, enema bags, and cups for exam preparation.
  • Maintain records and files of patient exams and perform necessary editing and registration in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and HIS/RIS interface.
  • Work closely with experienced DRTs to assist Urologists with Cysto exams in the urology clinic and spinal cord outpatient clinic.
  • Work closely with experienced DRTs to perform Dexa bone density exams, including maintaining exam records and managing patients in the HIS/RIS work list Conduct non-contrast diagnostic exams to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and materials, and notify the lead technologist or supervisor of inventory levels.
  • Assist in the clinical training of students from Augusta Technical College by teaching radiographic techniques, procedures, equipment use, safety hazards, and appropriate precautions.
