About the Role
The Aircraft Certification Service is a world-class organization of engineers, scientists, inspectors, test pilots, and aviation experts who lead the oversight of aircraft design, production, certification, and continued airworthiness programs supporting the safety and innovation of U.S. and international civil aviation.
What You'll Do
- →The Aircraft Certification Service comprises six divisions and three offices responsible for aircraft design type certification, production certification, original airworthiness certification, and continued airworthiness programs.
- →In the discharge of these duties and responsibilities, the Deputy Executive Director administers a budget of approximately $350M and provides executive direction and oversight to over 1,400 employees, including direct supervision of six executives, one L-band and one K-band manager.
- →Specific responsibilities include: Leads the development and issuance of regulations (including Airworthiness Directives); supports the Executive Director to grant or deny exemptions from regulations, issue notices of proposed rulemaking, issue national directives, and take final action on controversial issues related to aircraft certification and airworthiness functions.
- →Oversees AIR issuance of design and production approvals and airworthiness certificates and executes continued operational safety processes.
- →Ensures aircraft, engines, propellers, and aircraft parts and appliances comply with the FAA's safety regulations.
- →Provides direction for the ongoing oversight of all systems and processes associated with FAA approvals, including design, testing, production, issuance of certificates for domestic and foreign products, designee and delegation programs, and safety management or compliance assurance systems.
- →Leads transformation efforts within the Aircraft Certification Service and drives strategic change across the Service, AVS, and the FAA.
- →Provides executive oversight of reform initiatives, including Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Commercial Space Security, and serves as AIR¿s industry liaison for accountability and ombudsman matters.
- →Creates and maintains a professional network by collaborating with FAA lines of business, other Department of Transportation modals and Federal agencies, Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies, State and local governments, international aviation authorities, and aviation industry representatives to address issues impacting aviation safety.
