About the Role

The Department of Energy seeks a dynamic, innovative, and seasoned executive for the SES role of Deputy Director for Mission Support who will also serve as Chief Operating Officer. This key leader oversees DOE-IN's entire operational infrastructure, ensuring the success of its intelligence, counterintelligence, and cyber missions. The Deputy Director will direct business operations, resource allocation, and policy, thereby safeguarding critical national security assets across the DOE complex.

What You'll Do

  • As the Deputy Director for Mission Support, you will: Lead the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of all mission-enabling infrastructure and business operations.
  • Oversee the formulation, execution, and defense of the multi-million dollar annual budget, defending resource requests to senior DOE leadership, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and Intelligence Community partners.
  • Direct personnel management, recruitment strategies, and professional development programs to acquire and retain senior leaders and highly specialized technical experts.
  • Manage critical security, classification, records, and FOIA operations, and adjudicate requests for access to intelligence information in accordance with Intelligence Community standards.
  • Lead multifaceted business support functions, including facilities, travel, conference management, and crosscutting security functions for both headquarters and field components.
  • Formulate long-term strategic plans and establish rigorous internal control standards to assess and improve organizational policy, project viability, and operational efficiency.
  • Represent DOE intelligence capabilities and business operations at senior levels across the Executive Branch, the Intelligence Community, and the private sector.
  • Work closely with members of Congress and congressional staff to promote and defend IN's operational perspectives, resource requirements, and underlying business needs.
  • Provide strategic leadership, infrastructure support, and operational coordination to DOE's intelligence and counterintelligence activities located across the nationwide laboratory complex.
  • Evaluate, counsel, and mentor subordinate senior leaders, adjusting the allocation of responsibilities to optimize mission performance and foster career development.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S.
  • Citizen or National.
  • Subject to a 1-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • May be subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278 within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
  • A DOE "Q" security clearance and eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Top Secret (TS) access are required.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
