About the Role

The U.S. Secret Service (USSS) is seeking a dynamic, results driven Deputy Chief Financial Officer to support the Agency's mission by providing enterprise financial management, budget oversight, internal controls, financial reporting, and performance integration that sustain public trust and statutory compliance.

What You'll Do

  • Directs the day-to-day operations of an approximately 100-person financial management organization, setting priorities across budget, accounting, financial reporting, internal control, and data functions, and holding a senior executive and GS-15 division chiefs accountable for results.
  • Oversees the Agency's financial reporting and audit remediation effort, directing preparation of reliable financial statements, correction of audit findings, and the evidentiary record the internal or external auditor needs to render an opinion.
  • Oversees Agency-wide internal control and enterprise risk management, directing risk assessment and deficiency remediation across divisions and giving Agency leadership a clear, contextualized picture of fiscal and operational risk.
  • Oversees budget formulation and execution across operations / support, and investments account portfolios with differing structures and evidentiary standards.
  • Oversees the Agency's grants and acquisition management function, directing acquisition advisory support to program offices and the Agency's role as technical representative on grants policy.
  • Guides modernization of financial systems, data integration, and self-service reporting, working with the Chief Information Officer and program leaders so that financial, acquisition, and program systems produce accurate, timely, and secure information for decision-makers and oversight bodies.
  • Advises the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Agency leadership on the financial implications of new or proposed legislation, regulation, and policy, including effects on operation and mission, and long-term resource needs.
  • Resolves cross-functional issues that span multiple divisions, exercising judgment about which matters to elevate to the CFO, and acts on the CFO's behalf in internal leadership forums when delegated.
  • Advises the CFO on workforce planning, leadership continuity, and succession, to include assessing whether structure, grades, and reporting relationships fit the work.

Requirements

  • Citizenship is required.
  • Subject to a 1-year SES probationary period (unless already completed).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with https://www.sss.gov/verify/ or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Subject to a drug test prior to appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Must file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
  • Obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
