About the Role
This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will be responsible for serving as the Agency's technical authority on nuclear modeling and simulation (M&S) software and data architecture.
What You'll Do
- →This position may be filled using Direct Hire Authority: Z5CAV/Direct-Hire Authority (Certain DoD Personnel) PL 118-31, Sec 125OB (i)(2), 12/22/2023.This position is being filled under the memorandum from the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) "Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense," dated August 12,2024.
- →As a COMPUTER SCIENTIST at the GS-1550-15 some of your typical work assignments may include: Directs the formulation, development, implementation, and dissemination of nuclear modeling and simulation (M&S) software that provides authoritative nuclear weapons effects calculations, and provides technical expertise on these and related research matters.
- →Manages and coordinates the development of architecture, data structure, and software standards for nuclear M&S capabilities to address cybersecurity and interoperability requirements for DTRA and the Department of War (DoW).
- →Oversees development of software that provides the common M&S capability integrated into DTRA applications and tools to provide authoritative results for nuclear weapons effects.
- →Serves as scientific advisor to DTRA superiors, staff, and other DoW services/agencies for nuclear M&S software and data architecture and evaluates the impact of technology changes on nuclear M&S capability development.
- →Prepares budget estimates, provides for continuity of effort, and reviews proposals from industrial research and development firms to integrate new capabilities and improve the performance of nuclear weapons effects M&S architecture.
