About the Role

As an AST, Computer Scientist in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) you will leverage NASA data analytics infrastructure to build systems that process data efficiently and model that data to power analytics. You will engage with users to understand and automate data workflows, while working closely with product managers to identify high impact initiatives that will further NASA's mission by providing technologies that produce high-quality data products.

What You'll Do

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised.
  • Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Construct, test, and maintain data architectures such as databases and large-scale data processing systems.
  • Ensure that data is accessible and in a usable format for analysis, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and information technology specialist teams to develop data ingestion routines from various sources and ensures that these systems are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance.
  • Use statistical and analytical tools to review and interpret data, and to determine the appropriate amount of data that would be needed to support conclusions with specific levels of statistical confidence.
  • Work closely with product managers to identify high impact initiatives that would contribute to NASA’s mission.
  • Support the establishment of data engineering practices in collaboration with other senior engineers.
  • Evaluate and integrate products and technologies that can be leveraged by data engineers, data scientists and data analysts to build mature data products.
  • Engage with Mission and Mission support users to understand their requirements and automate data processing workflows.

Requirements

  • If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
  • Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
