About the Role

The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, Pharmacy Service, is currently recruiting for one (1) Clinical Pharmacist in Oklahoma City, OK. What You'll Do

  • VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The position requires the interpretation, application of, and adherence to all policies and procedures of the medical center and pharmacy service.
  • These include, but are not limited to: GS- 11 Pharmacist Dispensing: (1) Review and enter computerized orders by providers into the Computerized Patient Record System.
  • (2) Assists in supervising the performance of supportive technical staff and/or performs all activities involved in the procurement, preparing and dispensing of medications and in the providing of information.
  • (3) Assures adherence to accepted policies and procedures in accordance with State and Federal laws in drug and supply compounding, packaging, labeling, distribution and record keeping.
  • (4) Assists in the processing of controlled substances and pharmacy dispensing orders in accordance with VA policies and procedures.
  • (5) Educates patients on the appropriate use of medications.
  • (6) Prepares IV admixtures, using accepted aseptic technique.
  • Clinical: (1) Reviews patient prescription and medical records to identify and monitor drug related problems and potential problems to include adverse drug reactions, drug interactions (drug, lab, food) in appropriate dosage regimens and patient compliance.
  • (2) Provides consultation to physicians, nurses, and other health professionals on basic and patient specific drug therapy.
  • GS- 12 Clinical Pharmacist Clinical Pharmacists work in all aspects of the drug distribution process.
  • These activities include but are not limited to, reviewing, interpreting, and verifying all types of orders including inpatient orders, outpatient prescriptions, consult orders, non-VA prescriptions, discharge, or any other VA or non-VA authorized orders in their assigned work area.
  • Order verification includes assessment of computer-generated warnings, flags, pop-ups and ensuring prescriptions are safe in all aspects for patient administration.
  • In their role, Clinical Pharmacists will provide dose recommendations, enter new orders, refills, partials, traveling veteran refills, enter/request renewals, process therapeutic substitutions, provide supplies, OTCs or enter non-Formulary medications into the pharmacy computer package per policy.
  • Clinical Pharmacists will be expert educators for drug related information and provide direct patients. counseling, product demonstration, and problem solve patient concerns related to medications or supplies provided by pharmacy.
