About the Role

This position serves as a Pharmacogenomics Program Manager (PGx PM) for the Central California division. The incumbent's roles and responsibilities relate to leading PGx implementation, local staff's PGx education growth efforts, and delivery in patient care that incorporates PGx recommendations in a variety of practice areas both inpatient and outpatient with a global scope of practice (SOP), maintaining SOP and performs clinical functions independently.

What You'll Do

  • The Clinical Pharmacy Program Manager--Pharmacogenomics serves as the subject matter expert on behalf of the Pharmacy Service regarding Pharmacogenomics specialty, devising, assessing, monitoring, and documenting therapeutic plans utilizing the most effective, least toxic, and most economical medication treatments based on the Veteran's PGx results.
  • In addition to PGx duties, the incumbent will assist with PACT support, including oversight of patient panels and maintaining a scope of practice in the AmCare specialty.
  • The incumbent has knowledge of VA/DOD clinical practice guidelines, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, Veterans Affairs (VA) performance measures, and VA Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) initiatives and will integrate these standards into practice.
  • The PGx PM is responsible for adjudicating prior authorization requests for pain medications, ensuring cost-effective drug utilization, and enforcing compliance with VHA, VISN and local formulary guidance; will participate as a subject matter expert on PGx-related committees at the local facility level (e.g., PGx Steering Committee) and as permitted at national and VISN levels.
  • The PGx PM should assist with quality improvement projects related to PGx.
  • Indirect patient care activities include teaching/mentoring trainees, participating in quality assurance and improvement projects, participating in PGx-based education programs, supporting research, staff education, and consultation.
