This Intermittent Clinical Laboratory Scientist position is located in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The duties and responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist- Generalist include but are not limited to the following: Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technician occupation.
- →In addition, performs advanced and complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
- →Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis taking into account physiologic processes and requirements.
- →Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
- →Uses, calibrates, identifies malfunctions, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- →Diagnoses deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction.
- →Performs and documents quality control and assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
- →Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace.
- →Evaluates the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable.
- →Prepares specimens for analysis, insuring that the physiologic state of the specimen properties is maintained.
- →Selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols.
- →Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections.
- →Deviations from regular procedures, unanticipated problems, and unfamiliar situations are referred to more experienced staff for a decision or assistance.
- →Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
