About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Miami Field Office, Trade Division.

What You'll Do

  • Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to manage one or more national programs in order to help to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering/exiting the U.S.
  • Apply for this exciting opportunity to direct programs that strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security.
  • This position starts at a salary of $116,493.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to$151,443.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
  • The duties you will be performing include: Develops, plans, and provides guidance on tactical operations, such as the targeting of prearrival commercial cargo shipments and on those for export.
  • Provides oversight and outreach to Port personnel on the analysis of a wide variety of commercial documents such as invoices, bill of lading and packing slips in order to identify anomalies attendant to the importation and exportation of commercial merchandise.
  • Reviews and analyzes carriers', importers', and exporters' manifests, permits, certificates, entries, invoices, and associated documents to determine the admissibility of merchandise or cargo, and levels of risk for possible violations of laws and threats to national security, economic and agricultural interests.
  • Participates in training and outreach and ensures the conduct of visual and physical inspection of cargo, baggage, conveyances, packing materials and people using a wide array of nonintrusive technology.
  • Provides program guidance on commercial documents, inspection of commercial conveyances and cargo destined for export from the United States.

  • Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP.
  • Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
  • If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions: Working for the U.S.
  • Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government

  • Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess the Ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle.
  • A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
