About the Role

The position is located in the Neurology Service line within the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz (CMC) Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center reporting directly to the Chief of Neurology. The incumbent serves as the department's subject matter expert for business planning and analysis, tactical level implementation and, measures the success of the department's business initiatives, improvements, and overall organizational effectiveness.

What You'll Do

  • The position has responsibility and accountability for all issues affecting the Neurology Service line in consultation with the Chief of Neurology.
  • The Business Manager independently plans and studies the operations within the Service for the purpose of evaluating administrative methods, procedures, workflow, personnel utilization, organization, communication, planning, training, arrangement of space, equipment utilization regarding clinical performance.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include: Responsible for briefing the Chief of Neurology on priority operational and administrative items for the service line and acts congruently or on behalf of the Chief of Neurology in connection with management problems, serving as the liaison for professional clinical, technical and administrative staff to the Chief of Neurology.
  • Monitors provider-specific productivity in collaboration with the Chief of Neurology and reports any existing part-time physician hours to the Chief of Staff.
  • Develops short- and long-term staff utilization plans and requirements.
  • Analyzes changes in staffing requirements, organizational structural changes and alignment assuring positions provide optimum balance between economy, efficiency and skill utilization.
  • This includes analyzing staff productivity to determine needs/excess etc.
  • Serves as an administrative advisor to the Chief of Neurology.
  • As such, the incumbent provides a key role in assisting the Chief of Neurology in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, both long and short-range planning, budget guidelines, and proposals for efficient and effective utilization of resources and the operation of the division.
  • The policies and procedures concern all aspects of the organization including budget and fiscal management, supply, service and equipment procurement, human resources and workforce utilization, contract negotiations, initiation and oversight, construction and renovation, and space utilization.
  • Performs and/or directs special studies and projects for the Chief of Neurology, some highly confidential and complex in nature.
  • Analyzes proposals and provides the Chief of Neurology with an objective opinion before a final decision is made.
  • Serves as the focal point for all communication flow for the Neurology Division.
  • Responsible for the management of all administrative processes through appropriate utilization of Neurology staff.
