About the Role

You will serve as a Budget Analyst with National Park Service. This position is located in the Financial Management section of Yellowstone National Park. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. GS-11 Salary: $74,678 (Step 01) to $97,087 (Step 10). Duty location negotiable; please see the "Duties" section below for more details.

What You'll Do

  • CONTINUED FROM SUMMARY SECTION The duty location of this position is negotiable but will need to be at a National Park Service facility with confirmed space to house the selectee for the position.
  • Rate of pay listed is the Rest of US locality pay table but for the full range of potential pay please see the 2026 GS Pay Tables.

  • Major Duties: Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Serve as a technical specialist advising others on budget planning and proper application of appropriation law, regulation, and policy.
  • Independently coordinate, write, and/or submit budget justifications for a program area or contribute to justifications for a division or multiple related programs.
  • Project future budget needs including rising costs, changing program requirements, and anticipated funding levels.
  • Oversee specific areas of internal control and interpret and apply regulation and policy to assess compliance or need for corrective actions.
  • Work collaboratively with the park's financial management team.
  • Establish and maintain a current and functional control record of all allocations and authorizations received and those disbursed.
  • Compute general and special administrative assessments by percentages, ratios, or special formulas and make required adjustments during the year to maintain functional and appropriation integrity.
  • Design and participate in training sessions for personnel in budget preparation, budget execution, status of funds, and financial control.

  • Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.
  • In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.
