What You'll Do

  • As an Budget Analyst, at the GS-12 you will perform the following duties: Assists in interpreting and applying OMB guidelines, executive orders, and legislative mandates to daily budget operations, providing technical assistance to senior budget analysts on funding timelines and the proper execution of expenditures.
  • Assists with implementation of internal budget controls by reviewing obligation requests and reconciling financial estimates against program plans to ensure funds are authorized, available, and utilized without duplication.
  • Assists with supporting the full budget lifecycle-including formulation, justification, and execution-by preparing detailed reports and ensuring data accuracy across various appropriated, supplemental, and multi-year fund accounts.
  • Assists senior budget analysts in preparing and submitting required monthly, quarterly, and annual budget reports for internal management, the Department, OMB, and Congressional stakeholders to respond to external data requests.
  • Assists in monitoring the execution of complex, multi-year budgets by identifying spending trends, assessing the impact of program changes on operational costs, and ensuring objectives are met within financial constraints.
  • Assists in developing long-range budget forecasts and justifications for substantive programs, evaluating the cost-effectiveness of resource usage, and recommending adjustments to align with management's funding priorities.
  • Assists senior-level analysts to review and coordinate accounting documents, apportionments, allocations, and operating budgets.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with applicable budgetary and financial regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • *For GS-9 Education: 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree *A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education
