Supports ATO leadership and operations by collecting safety data for analysis of events affecting the NAS and identifying trends and non-compliance issues. Disseminates information about significant events in the NAS and is the focal point for reducing the risk of runway collisions and excursions. Coordinates with government and industry to ensure initiatives to manage runway safety risk are effective, formulates corrective action for continuous improvement, and promotes safety enhancements.
What You'll Do
- →This position is the Safety Deputy Director.
- →In this capacity, he/she applies in-depth technical knowledge of National Airspace Systems (NAS) equipment, systems, processes, and procedures to serve as the expert and focal point for all aviation safety matters and initiatives in the NAS.
- →Working closely with the Director and in partnership with the entire staff, the Deputy Director ensures the smooth operation of the organization's day-to-day functions.
- →He/she is responsible for managing this large, multi-level, geographically dispersed organization consisting of a highly technical workforce, including air traffic control, aviation technical system, and airways transportation system specialists.
- →He/she participates in strategic planning for the FAA and makes program and budget commitments for the Safety Directorate.
- →This work is critical to the safety of the NAS and the flying public.
- →He/she applies expert knowledge of aviation safety management systems to develop innovative quality control and assurance policies, procedures, and manages and resolves complex and challenging technical and budget issues.
- →As a safety focal, he/she applies experience overseeing aviation risk analysis programs to focus ATO resources on improving NAS safety.
- →He/she provides leadership that results in integrated policies, automated systems, tools, processes, and guidance to aggregate information; create safety data; identify the areas of highest risk; and to recommend mitigations to ATO senior leadership.
- →As Deputy Director, he/she formulates positions, establishes and oversees financial, business, and planning activities for innovative complex safety initiatives and programs.
- →Using experience managing a large complex technically-oriented safety organization, such as in a large federal agency or component within the aviation or aerospace industry, he/she leads and integrates a budget planning processes for a budget in excess of $150M.
- →He/she uses a detailed knowledge of resource management to manage, define, acquire, and allocate budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish objectives.
- →He/she considers technical, budgetary, regulatory, and political issues that involve other organizations inside and outside the FAA and may participate in developing solutions to FAA-wide problems.
- →He/she uses experience applying program/project management principles to integrate the work of multiple organizations to meet strategic goals and exercises the full range of supervisory responsibilities through 6 Group Managers, a large number of Team Managers and employees that are geographically dispersed.
