About the Role

The Assistant Principal Avionics Inspector (APAI) serves as a full assistant to a Principal Avionics Inspector (PAI) on the CFR, Part 145 Repair Station, performing the full range of certification, surveillance, and inspection duties for assigned air agencies, airmen, and designees. Duty location is San Antonio, TX.

What You'll Do

  • Technical Administration On a continuing basis, ensures assigned organizations are properly and adequately organized, staffed and equipped; have and conduct adequate training programs; maintains acceptable record keeping systems; and facilities as well as procedures to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Assists Principal Avionics Inspector and coordinates with the Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI) and Assistant Principal Maintenance Inspector (APMI) in the planning and implementation of certificate holders surveillance via usage of the Safety Assurance System (SAS) system.
  • Chairs, or represents the FAA in joint Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and industry meetings.
  • Maintains regular contact with organizations assigned and coordinates with agency management officials.
  • Requires or directs correction of any deficiencies/discrepancies and refuses or withdraws approval if they cannot be resolved.
  • Evaluates and reviews Training Program approvals.
  • Takes enforcement action in instances of noncompliance with the approved program.
  • Responsible for conducting enforcement investigations and preparation of final reports and recommendations on disposition.
  • Performs or supervises the emergency suspension of certificates or cancellation of operations specifications.
  • Conducts or directs the reexamination of certificated airmen or recertification of an air agency.
  • Conducts investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and assist with aircraft incidents and accidents.
  • Provides verbal and/or written technical assistance to legal counsel, testifies at court trials and formal hearings, and gives dispositions.
  • Coordinates with geographic inspectors and inspectors from other Certificate Holding District Offices (CHDOs) for the accomplishment of non-routine air agency surveillance.
  • Certification Responsible for initial and ongoing certification of air agencies and airmen.
