Please see duties section for more information on the Geographic Areas.
What You'll Do
- →One position will be filled with the Rocky Mountain Geographic Area duty location will be within the Rocky Mountain region - Location may offer relocation assistance.
- →Two Positions will be filled with in Southwest Geographic Area with a duty location in Arizona OR New Mexico - Location may offer relocation assistance.
- →One Positions will be filled with in Southern Geographic Area with a duty location in the state of Alabama.
- →Three Positions will be filled with in Northwest Geographic Area with a duty location in Oregon OR Washington As a Aviation Manager your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Prepares, reviews, and disseminates aviation policy statements, instructional memoranda (IM), Instructional Bulletins (IB), safety bulletins, manuals, and handbooks.
- →Analyzes new aviation technology advances in aircraft, avionics, navigational systems, support equipment, personal protective equipment for application and enhancement of USWFS aviation activities.
- →Coordinates procurement, use/training, and evaluation of new technology.
- →Oversees and evaluates the development and implementation of a strong, sound, well planned aviation safety training program and ensures that DOI, NTSB and FAA policy requirements are followed.
- →Provides management training sessions for Bureau aviation managers and administrators while ensuring that follow-on training is complied with.
- →Maintains constant awareness of operator behavior in work situations which have potential safety implications for others in which aircraft or other equipment is used or operated.
- →Performs aviation needs analyses and provides fire and non-fire resource program managers with aviation costs for use in developing annual work plans.
- →Plans, implements, and monitors the statewide aviation funding mechanisms.
- →Provides technical and fiscal input into Fire Management Plans, Resource Management Plans and agreements.
- →Reviews and/or approves Project Aviation Safety Plans for flights and projects to ensure hazard and risk mitigation.
- →Performs risk management assessments of on-going activities, proposed aviation missions and over-all program standards.
Requirements
- ✓Must be a U.S.
- ✓Citizen or National.
- ✓Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
- ✓Direct Deposit Required.
- ✓Prior on-the-line firefighting: This experience must be clearly documented in your resume with specific to and from dates, description of work performed, and hours worked per week in order to be considered.
- ✓Candidates must possess substantial wildland firefighting experience, gained through fire line work in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire.
- ✓The Department of the Interior defines wildland firefighting experience as any non-structure fire that occurs in the wildland.
- ✓Wildland firefighting experience is gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire.
- ✓This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal, or equivalent private sector fire position.
- ✓Wildland fires are categorized into two distinct types: (1) Wildfires - Unplanned ignitions or prescribed fires that are declared wildfires; and (2) Prescribed Fires - Planned ignitions.
- ✓This description includes only fireline experience on a Prescribed Fire; it does not include experience in the planning stages.
- ✓Prescribed fire experience must be supplemented by fire suppression experience in order to be creditable as previous wildland firefighting experience.
- ✓You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.
- ✓In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
