About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a legal advisor, providing support for all USAF Security Assistance Training contract activities.

What You'll Do

  • Chief legal counsel for USAF Security Assistance and/or Security Cooperation Training contracts.
  • Incumbent provides AFSAT a single point of contact for answering legal questions arising from International designated programs.
  • Applies knowledge of statutory and regulatory law provisions, as interpreted by courts and administrative boards, to develop legal advice that best satisfies Air Force command priorities.
  • Incumbent reviews complex contractual documents for legal sufficiency and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policy.
  • Performs independent professional legal review of USAF International Training designated contractual documents, contractual forms, and specialized contractual provisions involving millions of dollars and the most difficult and complex issues of fact and law.
  • Examines legal issues raised by requests for formal opinions and provides oral advice to AETC/IA and AFSAT personnel at various levels on pertinent contract issues.
  • Performs professional legal research and analysis and renders written and oral opinions to AETC/IA and AFICA leadership and staff on extremely complex and difficult issues of fact and law concerning the legality and enforceability of contracts; interpretation of contractual provisions; resolution of ambiguities; compliance with laws.
  • Examines legal issues raised by requests for formal opinions and provides oral advice to AETC/IA and AFSAT personnel at various levels on pertinent international law issues.
  • Provides legal review, consultation, and advice on international law issues, to include letters of offer and agreement, foreign military training agreements, off shore procurement, relationships with international organizations, weapons system procurement, training and execution in the AOR, application of the Arms Export Control Act, and other international legal matters.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changing statutory and regulatory guidance.
  • Performs timely completion of administrative legal duties as assigned by AETC/IA and AFSAT leadership.
  • Serves as legal advisor, furnishing advice and guidance.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
  • The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
