The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in both the general and gerontology psych units in overseeing operations of the nursing unit/patient care area. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership. This role combines clinical proficiency with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future NM positions.
What You'll Do
- →The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager with the operation of their designated units.
- →Provides coverage for other ANMs as needed.
- →The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and oversight of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- →Functions as a proficient clinician and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- →Self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the NM.
- →Providing input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM.
- →Assisting with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment.
- →Applying clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
