The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager with supervisory duties and oversees 24/7 operations of assigned units, providing coverage as needed. The ANM directs staff orientation, training, and development, and contributes to performance evaluations. Serving as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, they collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement evidence-based programs that improve care outcomes.
What You'll Do
- →The ANM functions as a clinical expert with full responsibility and accountability for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care using age-specific considerations.
- →Coordinates care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and satisfaction across the continuum of care.
- →Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to influence outcomes and leads innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →Duties include but not limited to the following: Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- →Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- →Equips staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
- →Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
- →Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
- →Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- →Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
