About the Role

The Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft world-wide; conducts protection, response, detection and assessment activities in airports and other transportation systems; serves as lead office for the TSA Insider Threat Program.

What You'll Do

  • The AA FAMS reports to the Executive Assistant Administrator (EAA) for Law Enforcement (LE) and serves as a member of the EAA's Executive Staff, providing authoritative advice and recommendations related to the formulation, execution and evaluation of long range programs and planning activities.
  • Advises the EAA and Executive Staff on on-going program initiatives.
  • Serves as primary advisor and authoritative consultant on program requirements and approaches for improving program and operational efficiency, and achieving critical program goals.
  • Represents the EAA in functional matters and responsibilities of field operations.
  • Deploys Federal Air Marshals in accordance with TSA and LE/FAMS strategic goals and the Concept of Operations.
  • Conducts investigative liaison activities with Federal, state, local, and foreign officials, law enforcement agencies, and critical stakeholders to support multi-lateral law enforcement and counterterrorism efforts.
  • Conducts investigations and makes arrests related to terrorism and threats to aviation security and the civil transportation system, and coordinates related investigative, surveillance detection, and tactical activities with law enforcement, Federal Security Directors, and the aviation and civil transportation industries.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with executives administering associated programs in TSA, DHS, and other federal law enforcement agencies to promote best practices and implement innovative approaches for delivering optimum levels of service.
  • Establishes and communicates to subordinate managers both short and long range program plans, goals, requirements and priorities.
  • Under the authority of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (PL 107-71, November 19, 2001), the incumbent functions as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and performs the duties and responsibilities assigned to FAMs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S.
  • Must serve a probationary period of one year unless you previously completed the probationary period in a SES/TSES position.
  • Must complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Must file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
  • Must complete a favorable Tier 5 Background Investigation (T5).
  • This position requires a TS/SCI (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) clearance that must be completed prior to appointment.
  • You will be subject to a 5-year periodic investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must have prior experience in a primary law enforcement position.
  • FIREARMS CERTIFICATION: This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm.
  • You must pass a certification at an interval required by the hiring/employing law enforcement component within TSA.
  • Failure to do so will result in the revocation of firearm authorization and any other appropriate administrative action, up to and including removal.
