About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations, National Air Training Center (NATC) located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

What You'll Do

  • In this position you will perform professional educational work as a staff Aircraft Flight Instructor and will be responsible for all or some of airplane, helicopter, instrument airplane, and instrument helicopter ground and flight training, aircrew evaluations, and pilot proficiency evaluations.
  • This position starts at a salary of $122,749.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $159,575.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

  • Typical work assignments include: Instructing and evaluating student and AMO pilots in basic and advanced flight, instrument maneuvers, emergency procedures, human factors, cockpit resource management, and tactical day/night operations using forward looking infrared and night vision equipment.
  • Providing initial aircraft training and annual recurrent training for AMO pilots in fixed-wing and/or rotor-wing aircraft.
  • Conducting initial entry and annual standardization evaluations of AMO pilots, including testing and certifying aircraft airworthiness by assessing mechanical deficiencies and system functionality.
  • Developing, planning, scheduling, implementing, and maintaining education and training programs for use within the department and external entities.
  • Evaluating program safety and flight procedures, recommending corrective actions or additional training as needed.
