The Heat & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Leader serves with responsibility for leading the HVAC Equipment Mechanics of the Heat & Air Unit, Maintenance & Operations Section, Engineering Service, Oklahoma City VA Health Care System (OKCVAHCS). This position works under the general direction of the Heat & Air Unit Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor at the OKCVAHCS.
What You'll Do
- →DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
- →Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on HVAC systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities.
- →Installs and repairs air handlers and components.
- →Installs, modifies, repairs all HVAC equipment in the building.
- →Plans layout and installation of HVAC wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- →Assembles, installs, tests, or maintains HVAC or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using proper tools.
- →Uses proper techniques and knowledge of HVAC wiring and equipment maintenance.
- →Prepares sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of HVAC or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- →Follows installation, maintenance, and repair manuals to accomplish assigned tasks.
- →Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed.
- →Tests HVAC systems or equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- →Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
- →Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
- →Inspects HVAC systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
