About the Role

The position of the Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor is located in the Facilities Management Service at VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto Division. The position serves as foreman over the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Shop exercising full supervisory responsibility for control over work operations.

What You'll Do

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor/PD03308-O Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
  • Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Instructs, directs, trains, and plans the activities assigned personnel and administers personnel actions for subordinate employees.
  • Performs frequent and periodic inspections of equipment whose maintenance and repair the HVAC Shop is responsible to perform.
  • Ensures adequate stock of materials and equipment by inventorying and ordering those supplies necessary within the allocated HVAC budget.
  • Schedules and approves annual leave of A/C & R Unit employees on an annual basis to accommodate seasonal workloads.
  • Assigns priorities to tasks of subordinates verbally or in writing to ensure deadlines are met and keeps a tickler file of important dates/goals to accomplish this.
  • Researches and gathers data on equipment and materials to prepare specifications for ordering supplies, equipment, and services required for the HVAC Shop.
  • Responsible for inventory and security of assigned equipment on the Equipment Inventory List (EIL), and other non-accountable supplies.
  • Initiates new and replacement personal property request, including justification information for the replacement.
  • Prepares Performance Plans for subordinates and prepares annual Performance Appraisals.
  • Interprets specifications, drawings, memos, catalogs, operating manuals, etc., for subordinates.
  • Receives assignments both orally and in writing.
  • Specific technical and administrative problems are discussed with supervisors concerning extensive and difficult assignments.
  • Carries out other special assignments as delegated and performs any other related duties that may be assigned to the HVAC Shop.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
