This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System, is located in the Engineering Service, Maintenance and Operations, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Shop. The incumbent serves as the supervisor of the HVAC/R Shop, exercising technical and administrative supervision of subordinate workers.
What You'll Do
- →Please be advised this occupation is currently undergoing a classification consistency review that may result in a change in title, series, and/or grade if determined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
- →A consistency review is required for this position as a result of an OPM appeal related to the occupation.
- →A "consistency review" is the process that involves a classification review of positions performing work that is identical, similar, or related to an OPM appeal to ensure they are classified consistently and in accordance with OPM standards.
- →If a reduction in grade occurs, you could be eligible for grade and/or pay retention The incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, planning, overseeing, and training of the HVAC/R Shop personnel which consist of four (4) WG-5306-10 AC Equipment Mechanics.
- →The incumbent is responsible for shop administration, leadership, and guidance.
- →The incumbent determines labor and material costs for maintenance and repairs, minor improvements, maintenance contracts, and alterations.
- →The incumbent furnishes advice and recommendations to services requesting work; discusses with them factors pertaining to the work such as urgency of need, particularly if the work concerns patient care.
- →Conducts periodic inspections of work that has been completed to determine the immediate and long-range work needs of this facility, assists in preparing and justifying equipment needs, planned maintenance programs and works up projects to be accomplished.
- →Prepares cost estimates for jobs and long-range programs, investigates work requests and suggestions, and make necessary contacts to gather needed information.
- →Incumbent maintains a program for preventive maintenance of expendable/non-expendable equipment, and personal property.
- →Coordinates preventive maintenance with shop personnel to establish PM procedures, estimated labor and material costs, frequency of PMs, and criticality levels.
- →Reviews completed PM sheets and makes corrections to PM schedules as needed.
- →Evaluates equipment systems (i.e.; air conditioning, refrigeration, medical air systems) to assure sufficient capacity for smooth functioning of the facility and compliance with Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards and local operating procedures.
- →The incumbent possesses considerable skill in communicating with others to persuade reasonable compliance with scheduled maintenance and to inform management of levels of progress.
Requirements

- ✓A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position.
