About the Role
This position is located in the United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), National Clonal Germplasm Repository located in Corvallis, Oregon. In this position, you will support the mission of the germplasm repository to maintain, acquire, evaluate, characterize, and distribute temperate fruit, nut, and specialty crops genetic resources for research use and long-term preservation of global food security.
What You'll Do
- →Independently plans, organizes, and maintains field germplasm collections for conservation and experimental use.
- →Establishes and maintains proper conditions of irrigation, weed control, fertility, and disease and insect control for optimum plant health.
- →Prepares field plots, plants new accessions, and maintains collections through irrigation, pesticide and herbicide applications, staking and trellising, pruning, flailing, and mowing.
- →Operates and maintains all aspects of the farm to include upkeep of the farm buildings and grounds and all equipment used for farm operations.
- →Maintains detailed field and laboratory experiment records, performs data entry in Windows-based computer applications, statistical analysis, and prepares appropriate reports, tables, graphs, slides and charts.
- →Stays abreast of current research trends, findings and needs in plant germplasm conservation and plant health and developing research protocols to address these needs either through literature searches.
Requirements
- ✓You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- ✓Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- ✓Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
