About the Role
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN)/Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Cardiology Service to provide a full range of Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
What You'll Do
- →The NP is a LIP with advanced education and national certification who provides evidencebased care for a population of patients.
- →CARDIOLOGY ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY/PACEMAKER SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in this role, functions independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive guideline directed evidence based care to cardiology patients.
- →This position is one of a group of Cardiology Advanced Practice Providers who respond to cardiology consult requests from within the hospital as well as from the VISN facilities.
- →The APP provides care to Veterans in the Electrophysiology/Pacemaker/Cardiology Clinic, delivering care in the outpatient setting, by face to face, telephone and telemedicine visits.
- →Interacts with patients within acute care, emergency department, Cardiac Cath Lab/EP lab, and/or the community living centers (CLC).
- →The population served includes male and female veterans across the adult lifespan, as well as active duty personnel.
- →Patients managed in the Electrophysiology/Pacemaker clinic by the APP may have complex comorbidities such as arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation/flutter, ventricular tachycardia, heart block, or other diseases including hypertension, COPD, diabetes, valvular diseases, coronary artery disease, cerebral vascular disease, auto immune disorders and renal impairment.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
