About the Role

The AO contributes to the definition of the health care system vision, values, goals, and action plans that support the KCVAMC's strategic plan. The position contributes to the quarterly and annual report of the Medical Center's performance. The AO acts as a resource person in planning, reviewing, or revising policies and procedures that impact patient care and service policy.

What You'll Do

  • As an Administrative Officer supporting the Nurse Executive and facility senior leadership, you will: Administrative Management 30%: Oversee daily operations of the Nurse Executive's Office.
  • Develop and implement administrative policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Serve as principal advisor on administrative management issues and as an extension of the Nurse Executive in explaining policies and resolving problems.
  • Human Resources Liaison 25%: Serve as the Nurse Executive's Office Service Representative for all HR actions.
  • Coordinate recruitment requests, position descriptions, job announcements, and personnel actions.
  • Monitor FTEE resources, track vacancies/recruitments, and advise leadership on staffing, organizational structure, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure accuracy of organizational charts and HR documentation.
  • Program Support 20%: Provide external board support for public-facing entities including Veterans Engagement Boards and Research Foundations.
  • Plan and execute organization-wide events, congressional/DoD/VA Central Office visits, and employee communications.
  • Oversee conference room scheduling, congressional/White House Hotline inquiries, and responses to VISN/VACO information requests.
  • Procurement/COR 15%: Manage procurement activities for the Nurse Executive's Office.
  • Prepare procurement requests, evaluate proposals, serve as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), and maintain records.
  • Oversee property management, equipment utilization surveys, and supply controls to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Budgeting/Financial Management 10%: Direct and monitor execution of the Nurse Executive's fund control points.
