About the Role

The incumbent serves as the Administrative Officer (AO) for pharmacy services at the Columbia Veterans Affairs Health Care System (CVAHCS) in Columbia, SC. The CVAHCS comprises the WM. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center and seven community-based outpatient clinics located throughout South Carolina in Anderson, Florence, Greenville, Orangeburg, Rock Hill, Spartanburg, and Sumter; serving more than 90,000 veterans annually in 36 of 46 counties in South Carolina.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent serves as the general business manager for the Pharmacy Service Line.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the administrative and financial management of the organization and supports the Chief of Pharmacy and Associate Chiefs of Pharmacy by operationalizing the healthcare plans of the Pharmacy Service Line.
  • The incumbent maintains a close and open working relationship with the Chief of Pharmacy and Associate Chiefs of Pharmacy, keeping them apprised of the status of funds, service contracts, human resource and payroll actions and notifications, and other clinical administrative concerns (labor mapping, clinic grids and bookability, open encounters, etc.).
  • Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring Pharmacy Service Performance to ensure programs meet the strategic plan goals, customer service goals, VHA Performance Measures, and goals and objectives of the Pharmacy Service National and VISN Pharmacy Benefits management (PBM)/Clinical Pharmacy Practice Office (CPPO) groups.
  • The incumbent participates in and represents the Pharmacy Service Line at a variety of top management meetings, committee assignments, and work groups.
  • In addition, the incumbent is expected to plan agendas, prepare and distribute approved meeting minutes, and draft initial and/or final correspondence for Congressional inquiries, etc.
  • This position also serves as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for multiple complex contracts and is responsible for developing the acquisition documents to follow-up throughout contract close-out.
  • Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for being the direct supervisor of pharmacy administrative support staff.
  • This position reports directly to the Chief of Pharmacy and provides additional support and assistance to the Associate Chiefs of Pharmacy.
