This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Midwest Region, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, Strong City, Kansas or Fort Scott, Kansas. This position serves as the Chief of Administration/Business Manager for the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and is responsible for managing the administrative and business operations of the organization and serve as principal advisor and management consultant.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Supervises the administrative staff.
- →Serves as the Administrative Officer responsible for managing administrative and business operations.
- →Serves as the principal advisor and management consultant to the Superintendents and park management teams for administrative matters and is often required to troubleshoot a wide range of situations.
- →Responsible for directing and coordinating planning activities to include complex and highly sensitive tasks and projects and is responsible for advising the park management teams and staff on all administrative and business matters.
- →Area information Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is in the Flint Hills of Chase County, just north of Strong City, Kansas.
- →Chase County is rural and lightly populated.
- →Major groceries, medical and dental services are in Emporia, Kansas (20 miles distant).
- →Public schools are in Cottonwood Falls and Strong City; a state university is located in Emporia.
- →NO PARK HOUSING IS AVAILABLE; rentals and houses for sale are limited in Chase County but plentiful in Emporia.
- →The town of Fort Scott, population 8000, offers basic shopping and groceries, several medical and dental clinics, public and private primary and secondary schools and a community college.
- →A four-year university is located in Pittsburg, Kansas, less than 30 miles away.
- →Kansas City is 90 miles north with an abundance of shopping, entertainment and cultural activity opportunities.
- →There is a variety of housing available in Fort Scott and the surrounding communities for rent or purchase.
- →NO PARK HOUSING IS AVAILABLE.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
- ✓Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement who have had a break in service of less than one year, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments.
- ✓Time-in-grade does not apply to new excepted service appointments and must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
- ✓You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
- ✓Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- ✓You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally.
- ✓You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. *Additional Requirements located under qualifications* To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
- ✓Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
