About the Role

The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist for the CWT Program is located within the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program, Mental Health Service at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for interviewing potential Veterans referred to them though the CWT program, and for developing a vocational assessment to identify individuals strengths and areas of vocational interests.
  • Completes written assessments to determine CWT program participants vocational strength and weaknesses, identify current barriers to competitive community employment, and utilize assessment results to determine a suitable vocational goal, and identify the steps to reach that goal.
  • Works closely with members of the interdisciplinary team including Physicians, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, Therapists, Social Workers, Case Managers, Outreach Workers, Liaisons, and other care providers within the VA facility.
  • Provides assistance with job seeking skills and strategies as needed.
  • The VRS will be responsible for assisting Veterans in understanding financial benefits entitlement programs and housing eligibility requirements and the effects of working on their entitlement.
  • Once the Veteran has obtained community employment, the VRS will continue to work with the Veteran, the interdisciplinary team, and the employer to provide ongoing support, negotiate any work site accommodations that may be needed, and work to develop natural supports within the community and work setting.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: This position may be authorized for telework on an as needed (ad hoc) basis, determined by the needs of the service.
