About the Role

As a Vertical Transportation Specialist Elevator Inspector, you will manage and provide guidance, direction and oversight to all zonal property and project managers regarding the Vertical Transportation program. The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for providing facilities related solutions and services to Federal tenants located in over 8500 owned and leased workspaces across the nation. We are currently filling 8 vacancies, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Ensures an accurate and complete Vertical Transportation (VT) inspection program that complies with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Ensures VT inspections are completed and documented as required by Code and agency policy.
  • Performs ASME A17.1 QEI-1 certified inspections and enforces code compliance upon contractor conveyance of vertical transportation systems to ensure the public's safety.
  • Oversees and/or directs periodic acceptance inspections and tests recommended by the most recent edition of ANSI/ASME A17.1, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.
  • Duties include witnessing and acceptance of annual, semiannual, five year and new installation testing as needed within the vertical transportation inventory.
  • Provides expert technical assistance, management and oversight for maintenance contracts.
  • Performs site visits as needed to ensure compliance of maintenance contracts for the Zone.
  • Provides and recommends ways to accomplish and improve service requirements by providing analysis of elevator systems data and call reports to determine and evaluate malfunctioning equipment.
  • Acts as the liaison on maintenance and repair contracts between agency and vertical transportation contractors.
  • Reviews and approves work, reporting documents, and inspection reports for the zone's inventory.
  • Supports zonal and national efforts to accurately track and report zonal Vertical Transportation (VT) equipment into an electronic asset system.

Requirements

  • Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 2 investigation level).
  • Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee.
  • We will use the Department of Homeland Security's e-Verify system for this.
  • Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.
  • Obtain and maintain a QEI-1 certification by an organization accredited by ASME.
  • Site work may involve moderate risks or discomfort due to high levels of noise and vibrations, and dust and grease.
  • Special safety precautions are required at construction sites, and the employee may be required to use protective devices such as goggles, gloves, masks, safety shoes, and hard hats.
