About the Role

THIS IS A MERIT ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION UNIT: FMS #3 LOCATION: Arden Hills, Minnesota SELECTING OFFICIAL: MAJ James Brown (651-282-4741) ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED

What You'll Do

  • Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list A SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER (MERIT, T32), WL-5801-11, Leader Duties: a.Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge,skills, and abilities.
  • Passes on to workers instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper workmethods, and starts work.
  • Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and thatneeded stock is obtained from supply locations.
  • Works along with other workers and sets pace performing non-supervisory repair work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led.
  • Work performed by theincumbent involves troubleshooting, maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat,tactical, and automotive vehicles. b.Assures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.
  • Checks work in progress andwhen finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures onwork sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and directs or advises other workers to follow supervisor'sinstructions and to meet deadlines.
  • Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, writteninstructions, and other directives.
  • Interprets work instructions and assists lower graded repairers or trainees inthe more difficult and complex tasks.
  • Provides information to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
  • Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Non-Supervisory Duties: a.Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical,and automotive vehicles.
  • This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, roadgraders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, power shovels, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, all terrainvehicles, semi trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as aregular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems to include internal combustionengines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, andhydraulic utility systems and controls, cross drive or similar multi-system transmissions and a variety ofintricate fuel injection systems.
  • Makes repairs and modifications to assemblies and components such as voltageregulators, generators/alternators, brake cylinders, etc., for use or placement in systems for which they were notspecifically designed.

Requirements

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position is being filled under Merit Promotion procedures and is open to current employees only.
  • Minnesota National Guard Membership is required.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • Most MNNG position are covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • MILITARY COMPATIBILITY: Upon selection, individuals will undergo a background check to validate suitability for employment with the federal government as permitted by law, regulation, Presidential order or other authority.
  • Suitability is dependent upon the particular requirements for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access.
  • Items checked include, but are not limited to all criminal history record information, employment history, education and fiscal accountability/responsibility.
