THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief with regular and recurring responsibility for the overall operation of a small maintenance shop. DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1 = On-board technicians currently assigned to the Louisiana National Guard.
What You'll Do
- →Duties & Responsibilities: (1) Plans, accomplishes, and maintains a functional small shop maintenance program.
- →Plans and lays out work to be accomplished by shop workers.
- →Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when work should be accomplished.
- →Estimates manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
- →Devises and maintains program plans and records; provides surveillance and troubleshooting techniques; and determines maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical or supervisory guidance.
- →Plans, organizes, and directs shop maintenance programs and/or procedures; and determines approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
- →(2) Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles.
- →This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, compressors, generators, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, sedans, buses, all terrain vehicles, trucks, semi trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment.
- →Incumbent troubleshoots, repairs and may overhaul major systems to include internal combustion engines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems and controls.
- →Makes repairs to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators, generators/alternators, brake cylinders, etc.
- →(3) Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools.
- →Utilizes embedded diagnostics in equipment and a wide variety of original equipment manufacturer system analyzers in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repair.
- →Determines what adjustments may be necessary to complete work orders, and whether any additional repairs other than those specified or indicated on the work order are necessary.
- →(4) Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems.
Requirements
- ✓1) National Guard Membership is required. 2) Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. 3) Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. 4) May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. 5) Must currently be On-board technician assigned to the Louisiana National Guard.
