About the Role

The Supervisory Social Worker is responsible for the outpatient mental health services provided by Social Work Service and assist in planning, establishing, implementing policies and procedures, developing individual or group goals and objectives, as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating, and overseeing the Social Work staff of assigned programs.

  • This includes planning, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating a comprehensive range of Social Work Services at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System.
  • The incumbent may function as the Supervisory Social Worker for social workers in Temple, Waco, Austin and/or the CBOCs.
  • Duties are subject to change depending upon the needs of the service.
  • The incumbent is actively involved with ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, State licensure standards, as well as VA-OIG expectations by reviewing medical records and providing training for staff as needed or requested.
  • Provides clinical consultation to staff concerning particularly difficult cases or ethical dilemmas.
  • Conducts performance improvement, mid-term/annual evaluation and feedback, disciplinary review, first-level review, and approval of leave requests for staff supervised.
  • Ensure the staff supervised are aware of and adhere to all current directives of VHA and meet current regulatory standards, state licensure standards, and VAOIG expectations.
  • Conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies.
  • Ensures that the clinical operations are in compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
