About the Role

This position will be located at a USDA Forest Service office within the Northern Region, Region 1. The incumbent serves as a program specialist responsible to formulate and coordinate the planning, development, implementation, documentation, and delivery of the regional workforce development and training programs. What You'll Do

  • Provide oversight for the scheduling and coordination of mid-level aviation, fire prevention, fire suppression, fuels management, and fire management courses that are beyond the capability of Forest units.
  • Coordinate the development of annual program of work and budget proposals to support regional training and workforce development programs.
  • Coordinate budget development with other staff areas and coordinates the annual reporting of the program accomplishments.
  • Provide administrative and technical supervision.
  • Represent the Region at national planning sessions involving course development, specifications and criteria for Fire, Fuels, and Aviation Management.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of technology transfer and adjusts training material/content to incorporate state of the art technology into the needs and objectives of all fire related activities.
  • Develop the process and procedures to obtain Regional and Interagency identification of training needs and conducts an annual complex needs analysis to determine needs.
  • Work independently and with Forests within the region to ensure that Regional Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) database is current and up-to-date based upon the current training records and task book completions.
  • Provide fire expertise in negotiating contracts for various types of services.
