The Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist, GS-0301-12, serves as full time Chief of the Member Services Unit for the San Francisco Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System. The Chief of the Member Services Unit serves as the station liaison for all patient pre-registration, insurance identification, income verification, demographics, enrollment and benefits eligibility, health benefits counseling, beneficiary travel and decedent affairs.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Exercise supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
- →Direct, coordinate, and communicate actions that will improve and enhance the healthcare experience of Veterans and their family members.
- →Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the electronic performance management system.
- →Responsible for assuring the competency of employees and scheduling appropriate corrective action to address identified deficiencies.
- →Operate with full delegated authority and responsibility for running a Volunteer Service (VS), Customer Service (CS) and Public Affairs (PA) program utilizing principles through collaboration, communication, and alignment with VHA's goals/performance measures.
- →Responsible all aspects of the Gift and Donation program, both monetary and material, for VASNHCS (i.e., soliciting, monitoring and tracking) as it pertains to community organizations, businesses, foundations, etc., regarding meeting the recreational, religious and moral needs of Veterans/patients/residents.
- →Responsible for managing and supervising the Volunteer Transportation Network.
- →Develops and implements programs and program changes that impacts the ability of the Service to meet VASNHCS needs and develops innovative/creative community outreach programs that provide volunteers and financial resources.
- →Serves as subject matter expert to staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of VA, VHA, VISN and the Health Care System regarding VAVS and Public Affairs.
- →Ensures ongoing program development, program coordination and leadership in all areas of VAVS and Public Affairs Serve on Boards, Committees and Councils: the incumbent chairs, co-chairs or participates as an active member of boards, committees and councils in the area of VAVS and Public Affairs for VASNHCS and may be called upon to serve at Network level.
