About the Role

The Supervisory Projects Engineer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System, Sheridan VA Healthcare System. ensures safe, reliable, and a precisely controlled operating environment for direct patient care through management of a design and construction program to build and renovate hospital and support environments.

What You'll Do

  • Engineering Project Management and Administration: This position is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and management processes for the Engineering Service Project Section that includes setting qualitative and quantitative standards.
  • Provides technical advice on a wide range of engineering issues, including the Strategic Capital Investment Plan, Capital Asset Inventory, Capital Asset Resource Survey, Deferred Maintenance, and a myriad of engineering related topics.
  • Is a member of and participates on station, VISN, and national committees and work groups.
  • In this capacity the Supervisory Projects Engineer meets with others on the committee from throughout the Medical Center, around the country, and representatives from VACO and the VHA HEFP Enterprise Support Services.
  • As part of the Engineering planning team, the Supervisor, Projects Section supports the Strategic Capital Investment Planning (SCIP) process.
  • Within projects section, responsible for providing professional engineering direction to ensure compliance with legislative and accrediting requirements at the Medical Center for all design and construction projects.
  • These requirements include Federal (e.g., OSHA, EPA, Food and Drug Administration, etc.), state, and local authorities having specific jurisdiction concerning protection and quality of life and environment, as well as accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, etc.).
  • Provides Engineering/Architectural and Construction Administration Oversite This position receives administrative direction from the Chief, Engineering Service with assignments in terms of broadly defined project related functions.
  • This position is responsible for the implementation of the Medical Center's capital improvement program.
  • Identified needs are individually transformed to engineering requirements, estimated, accomplished locally, or recommended as part of a comprehensive plan for agency funding.
  • Develops technical data regarding materials, sizes, dimensions, quantities, and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications.
  • Conducts site visits.
  • Ensures construction is conducted in accordance with established specifications including but not limited to VA Construction and Facilities Management (CFM) Standards, American Institute of Architects (AIA), Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards, US Pharmacopeia (USP) 797/800 Standards.
  • Prepares correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules as required to complete project assignments.
